Senator Flanagan Reads To Young Students At Stony Brook University’s Freedom School

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently visited the Stony Brook University’s Freedom School to read with the children who participate in the summer enrichment program. The motivational project, which was the first of its kind on Long Island, is designed to generate positive attitudes toward learning. 

Senator Flanagan was invited to join the children by Dr. Charles Robbins, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of the Undergraduate Colleges. 

All of the students in the program, which is run in conjunction with the Children’s Defense Fund, are heading into fourth grade and the program helps instill in them a true belief that they are capable of accomplishing great things in their lives. By reaching the children at a young age, the initiative will help set them up for academic success in their future academic career. 

“I would like to thank Dr. Robbins and his staff for allowing me to visit and the children for allowing me to spend a part of their day with them. This is a wonderful program that will benefit these students for years to come and it was truly my pleasure to join them,” stated Senator Flanagan.
