Senator and Congressman Serrano Co-Host Annual Black History Month Celebration

(Bronx, NY)- Senator José M. Serrano and his father, Congressman José E. Serrano, celebrated their annual Black History Month event at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. An enthusiastic crowd packed the auditorium for a morning of brunch, live performances and an award ceremony honoring exemplary leaders in the community. The honorees this year were Kellie Terry, Executive Director of The Point C.D.C.; O'Cynthia Williams, Parent Leader & Organizer of the NYC Coalition for Educational Justice and the United Parents of Highbridge;  and Bernel Arthur Richardson, Executive Director of Black United Leadership of the Bronx (BULB).

"I am proud to be able to stand side by side in honoring these incredible individuals in celebration of Black History Month," said Senator Serrano. "It is important that we give back and commemorate those that have been working so diligently to make our communities and world a better place. Kellie, O'Cynthia and Bernel are fine examples of the tremendous work and accomplishments that should be celebrated not only today or just the month of February, but throughout the year and for many more to come," concluded Serrano.

Entertainment was provided in the form of an inspiring spoken word performance by Lyn Robinson and joyful musical performances by the Renaissance Youth Choir. Other elected officials that were in attendance included State Senator Gustavo Rivera and Council Member Vanessa Gibson.
