(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano joined Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and Bronx elected officials and colleagues in a press conference calling for more clean fuel conversions for buildings in The Bronx. New regulations mandate that all buildings stop burning dirty, old-style #6 and #4 heating oils and convert to cleaner technology. Unfortunately, many buildings in The Bronx have yet to make this conversion and the result is more pollution and negative health consequences for our community, a community already overburdened with asthma and other pollution-related ailments.
"Buildings burning old-style heavy heating oil are some of the biggest contributors to pollution and negative health consequences in neighborhoods throughout the Bronx. I applaud Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and his efforts to push for cleaner fuel oil conversion in the areas that need it most. The positive impact of better compliance will ensure a cleaner environment for our community now, and for generations to come. Many thanks to Assemblyman Crespo for his leadership and for spearheading this event and to the Mayor's Office for Sustainability for pushing for clean fuel conversions."
Senator Serrano is a staunch advocate for environmental concerns and is ranked as one of the most environmentally friendly members of the New York Senate by the EPL/Environmental Advocates of New York.
