November 16, 2014
East Harlem, NY)- Senator José M. Serrano and Senator Liz Krueger joined the Turkish Cultural Center in delivering 1,500 pounds of food to the New York Common Pantry. The generous donation by the Turkish Cultural Center was part of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice. This year's donation represents a 50 percent increase from last year's donation and will help feed more than 1,250 families.
"As we approach Thanksgiving- a joyous time of feasts and giving thanks- the stark reality is that we are facing growing hunger and food insecurity in many communities across New York City," said Senator Serrano. "This generous food donation will help combat this problem. Many thanks to the New York Common Pantry for their tireless efforts in combating hunger and to the Turkish Cultural Center for their generous donation."
