(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano joined Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson and local community members in the Highbridge section of The Bronx for a street renaming ceremony in honor of the late Bishop Wenzell P. Jackson. Nelson Avenue at the corner of West 167th Street was renamed "Bishop Wenzell P. Jackson Way." Bishop Jackson, formerly the Pastor at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, was a unifier in the community, serving as Chairperson of Bronx Community Board 4.
"Bishop Jackson was an exemplary leader in our community. Not only did he inspire the community through his work at the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, but also through his community work as Chairperson of Community Board 4. This fitting tribute will serve as a reminder for generations to come of the great work of Bishop Jackson. Many thanks to Councilwoman Vanessa L. Gibson for making this tribute a reality," said Senator Serrano.
