Senator Serrano Meets with "Vision Zero" Advocates & Discusses Legislation that would Reduce Traffic Fatalities

(Albany, NY)- Senator Serrano met with representatives from Families for Safe Streets, who traveled to Albany to advocate for better traffic laws, specifically legislation to lower the speed limit in New York City to 20 MPH in order to help reduce traffic fatalities.

"Traffic fatalities continue to take precious lives, many in neighborhoods I represent in the 29th Senate District" said Senator Serrano. "Reducing the speed limit will ensure that we are closer to achieving the goal of zero pedestrian deaths in 10 years. I would like to thank everyone from Families For Safe Streets who met with me and shared their touching stories. Many of them have lost friends and family members due to reckless traffic accidents. I am committed to making sure our streets are safer so that more lives are not lost," concluded Serrano.  

Senator Serrano is a staunch advocate for legislation that would improve pedestrian safety in New York City. He adamantly supports Mayor Bill de Blasio's "Vision Zero" plan, which aims to dramatically reduce the number of traffic fatalities in 10 years. Serrano applauded passage of bill S6918, which authorized 120 additional speed cameras in New York City school zones.
