(Albany, NY)- Senator Serrano moderated a very important panel discussion entitled "Addressing Health Disparities in the Latino Community," for the 2014 SOMOS El Futuro Conference weekend in Albany. Experts in the field of health provided information regarding the alarming rate of chronic diseases that are disproportionately affecting the Latino community. Chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, hypertension, and many others have reached epidemic proportions among Latinos and other communities of color.
"This panel discussion is of critical importance for people of color," said Senator Serrano. "The data presented by the panel of experts highlights that communities of color are more susceptible to suffering from chronic diseases at much higher rates than other communities. Knowing what you can to do combat chronic disease is an important first step to closing the gap. Many thanks to our panelists for providing valuable information, and to everyone who attended for asking such inquisitive questions," concluded Senator Serrano.
