(South Bronx, NY) - Senator Serrano hosted a free Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) workshop at the Hope of Israel Senior Center in the South Bronx. Senator Serrano was joined by the New York City Department of Finance and the office of New York City Council Member Vanessa Gibson to provide information and answer questions about the SCRIE program. SCRIE offers eligible seniors an exemption from future rent increases. The seminar helped individuals learn more about the SCRIE program, eligibility requirements and how it can help constituents afford to stay in their homes.

"I am excited to sponsor this informative SCRIE workshop in the Bronx. This year in the State Senate, I was proud to help lead the fight to ensure that the income threshold for SCRIE was increased. Previously, only seniors with a maximum annual income $29,000 were eligible, but we have been able to increase that number to $50,000. Raising the SCRIE income threshold will enable many seniors to remain in their homes and have additional income available for such necessities as food and medical care. Many thanks to the NYC Department of Finance and The Hope of Israel Senior Center for helping to connect more seniors with SCRIE at our workshop," said Senator Serrano.
