Senator Serrano Urges Senate Leadership to Make Universal Pre-Kindergarten a Priority this Year
(Albany, NY)- Senator José M. Serrano, Chair of the Senate Democratic Conference, expressed disappointment after comments by Senator Dean Skelos that universal pre-kindergarten would not come to the Senate floor for a vote this legislative session. The universal pre-kindergarten(UPK) bill would make pre-school accessible for all children.
"UPK is one of the best ways to ensure academic success for our students. I find it extremely troubling to think that some would play politics with an issue of this magnitude by not allowing it to come to the Senate floor for an up or down vote," said Senator Jose M. Serrano.
