October 20, 2014
Dear Neighbor,
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching! It’s a special time of the year to give thanks for our families, friends and communities. For generations, millions of Americans nationwide have enjoyed celebrating this special time of the year, as we collectively pause to reflect on the many things we have to be grateful for.
To celebrate Thanksgiving Day this year, I am sponsoring a Creative Celebration for children in grades K-6 throughout my 29th Senate district. The theme of the Thanksgiving Day Celebration is “what are you thankful for?” We are asking students to submit electronically an original poem, one-page essay, or artwork expressing what they are thankful for in the past year.
Participants will submit electronically, preferably in jpeg or pdf format via http://www.nysenate.gov/webform/what-are-you-thankful-year-2014. All submissions will be published online and students will receive a certificate acknowledging their participation from me. Deadline for student submissions is November 24, 2014.
Students are encouraged to not only be creative in their project, but also to convey being thankful for the people in their lives and their communities. I hope you and your students will participate in this year’s Thanksgiving Day Creative Celebration.
Sincerely,
Senator José M. Serrano
