ALBANY – Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos has appointed Sen. Joseph A. Griffo, R-Rome, to a leadership post of Liaison to the Executive Branch.
The liaison is an integral link between the Senate Majority and the Governor’s Office on an array of public policy issues.
“Senator Griffo is a dedicated public servant and an effective advocate for the people of the Mohawk Valley and Northern New York,” said Senator Skelos. “The liaison position requires a member who is a vocal advocate for the Senate Majority’s priority issues, as well as a good listener and a good communicator. I have no doubt that Senator Griffo will be a great asset as we work to grow our economy, keep taxes low and provide our children with a top-notch education.”
Griffo will also join the Senate Codes Committee, which considers issues and bills related to the state’s criminal and civil justice system. The Codes Committee makes recommendations on changes to the state Criminal Procedure, Penal and Civil Practice laws, as well as some articles in the Executive Law.
“I thank Senator Skelos and the rest of the Senate Majority leadership for these new assignments. I look forward to taking on new issues and new challenges in the coming legislative year,” said Griffo.
Griffo will remain chairman of the Senate Banks Committee, as well as a member of the following committees: Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business; Crime Victims, Crime and Correction; Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation; Energy and Telecommunications; Finance; Higher Education; Infrastructure and Capital Investment; Racing, Gaming and Wagering; and Veterans, Homeland Security & Military Affairs.
He is also on the Senate Select Committee on Science, Technology, Incubation and Entrepreneurship.
There is no extra stipend associated with the new leadership post and new committee assignment.
