ALBANY – State Senator Joseph A. Griffo offered the following statement regarding the allocation of $709.2 million in state funding through the fourth round of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.

“I am very pleased to learn that New York is committing $123 million to initiatives in the Mohawk Valley ($59.6 million) and Northern New York ($63.4 million) that will spur job creation and investment and help our businesses expand their global footprint.

The North Country Regional Economic Development Council has once again impressed state economic leaders. After addressing adequate housing, broadband access and the emerging bio-tech field in previous applications, the Council correctly turned its focus this year to cross-border alliances. This year’s application, ‘Without Boundaries,’ recognizes that lines drawn on a map should never limit opportunities to attract investment. I am extremely impressed that all of the 222 projects funded during the prior three rounds are on track for completion. The Council has worked together to maximize the dollars awarded, and it’s no surprise they receive a large portion of the funding.

Today, the state also recognized the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council’s commitment to building on the foundation of its record third round of funding. Their application, ‘Sustaining Momentum,’ recognizes that our area continues to be a state leader in advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity and agriculture. It also identifies infrastructure projects that will help us revitalize downtowns, expand tourism opportunities and protect our communities from flooding.”
