Applications Available From Both Legislators; Completed Applications Are Due on May 2nd
UTICA -- State Senator Joseph A. Griffo of Rome and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi of Utica announced today that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is again accepting applications for four $2,000 scholarships that will be awarded June 9th at its annual Legislative Conference Day.
“I highly encourage that any interested students apply to the Conference for the chance at this prestigious scholarship, so that they will hopefully get some extra help with college-related expenses,” Griffo said
“Given the high cost of college, every opportunity should be made by local students and their working families to meet required expenses with scholarships, as well as with available financial aid and student loans,” Brindisi said.
The two state legislators said that eligibility for the scholarship will be based on applicants’ grade point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community, and individual financial needs. Scholarship recipients will be invited to Albany to receive their scholarship awards in June. Griffo and Brindisi are asking that completed applications be returned to their offices by Friday, May 2nd.
The Conference is a bipartisan organization of New York State Assembly and Senate members who actively promote and celebrate the state’s Italian-American community. The conference’s mission is to highlight Italian-American contributions to the State in all aspects of society, including literature, the arts, architecture, and politics, and to work to dispel negative stereotypes of Italian-Americans.
Area students may request an application by contacting Griffo’s office at (315) 793-9072, or Brindisi’s office at (315) 732-1055.
