Senator Marchione promotes “Women of Distinction” program to recognize, celebrate and honor the life, work and accomplishments of outstanding women in Columbia, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Washington Counties
Non-partisan program recognizes women who have made their community, state and country a better place; program nominations are due March 24
New York State Senator Kathleen A. Marchione (R,C-Halfmoon) today asked constituents for their help in recognizing, celebrating and honoring the life, work and accomplishments of outstanding local women by nominating them for consideration as part of Senator Marchione’s 2014 “Women of Distinction” program.
Senator Marchione’s Women of Distinction program celebrates women whose tireless commitment and countless contributions have made their community, state and nation a better place. Women living in the 43rd Senate District – which includes parts of Saratoga, Rensselaer, and Washington Counties, and all of Columbia County – are eligible for nomination. The entry deadline for Senator Marchione’s Women of Distinction program is Monday, March 24.
All Women of Distinction nominees from the 43rd Senate District will have their picture and biographical information included in a keepsake commemorative program. One nominee from the 43rd District will be selected by Senator Marchione and her special advisory panel to be part of the Senate’s statewide Women of Distinction program and honored during a public ceremony in Albany on May 13. The Woman of Distinction for the 43rd District also will be featured in the Senate’s official Women of Distinction printed program, website and gallery on display in Albany.
In 2013, eight women – four from Columbia County; two from Rensselaer County; one from Saratoga County and one from Washington County – had their lives and successes recognized, celebrated and honored as nominees for Senator Marchione’s Women of Distinction program. The Woman of Distinction selected for the 43rd Senate District was Dr. Kari Bovenzi of Wynantskill. Dr. Bovenzi is a pediatrician, owner of Genesis Pediatrics and is a powerful advocate dedicated to raising awareness of Lyme Disease and helping families and children overcome the condition. Dr. Bovenzi and her fellow honorees were chosen by Senator Marchione and her advisory panel that will again include Lynda Sharpe of Germantown, Susan Reynolds of Easton and Sheila Lobdell of West Sand Lake.
“March is ‘Women’s History Month,’ when we commemorate the women whose energy and excellence, courage and commitment, have moved America forward. It is important that we show our appreciation for the positive examples women leaders have set and re-commit ourselves to building upon their enduring legacy. Women’s History Month is the perfect opportunity to recognize, celebrate and honor women across our 43rd Senate District who are making a positive difference by nominating them to my Women of Distinction program,” said Senator Marchione.
Nomination forms for Senator Marchione’s 2014 Women of Distinction program are available by calling (518) 455-2381, e-mailing Senator Marchione at marchione@nysenate.gov, or visiting www.marchione.nysenate.gov.
