Senator Ken LaValle has become a member of a newly formed environmental caucus comprised of New York State Legislators from both the Assembly and the Senate. The New York State Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NYSCEL) will be a forum to consider legislative and policy issues related to preserving and protecting the environment and public health.
“Environmental issues have always been critically important to me, from protecting the Pine Barrens, preserving agricultural land, promoting Smart Growth initiatives, to safeguarding clean water for Long Island.” Said Senator LaValle. The non-partisan NYSCEL group and the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators have agreed to affiliate their respective organizations. Senator LaValle continued, “By combining expertise and joining efforts with the national association, we increase the collective ability to better preserve our lands and waters.”
The NYSCEL will hold meetings, host seminars, and convene events to educate other officials and the public to underscore the need for action on environmental issues. Senator LaValle concluded, “The importance of advancing sound environmental policy is another goal I share with caucus members. Preserving our precious natural resources isn’t a choice, it’s a necessity for the future of Long Island. I look forward to meeting the challenges.”
