(Brooklyn, NY)- “The Assembly’s passage of the DREAM Act (New York State Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act, A 2597-A) on Tuesday was a giant step forward for New York’s immigrant community. This progressive legislation increases educational access for talented students, regardless of their immigration status, and provides them with a pathway to receive the education they rightfully deserve.
For all Americans, education has served to help us put our feet on the rungs of the ladder of success, and it has been ‘the Great Equalizer’. The DREAM Act will further ensure our state’s economic prosperity. We should never forget that immigrants are the past, present, and future of our great state and nation. We remain indebted to them and should protect them as our own.
