(May 10, 2014) - State Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D-Hollis) presented a Senate Resolution to Najah Lorde, 13, at her home in Springfield Gardens. She is the top seller of Girl Scout Cookies in New York City this year with 2,833 boxes. Last year she sold 1,111 boxes.
"I love to meet young people like Najah," Smith said. "Even though she is still young, she has shown great leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit, and I am glad that I could recognize her achievements with a resolution passed by the entire State Senate."
Najah is a cadet with the Girl Scouts and has been a scout since the 1st grade. She currently attends Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy in Douglaston, NY, where she was recently selected to be in the Aquinas program. She is a member of Young People Division (YPD) at the Greater Allen A.M.E Cathedral of NY.
She participated in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade from 2010 to 2012. She's a candidate to become an Oliver Scholar - a program that identifies and engages extraordinary New York City students of African and Latino descent and prepares them for success at leading independent high schools and prestigious colleges. Besides those accomplishments, Najah loves her dance classes on Saturdays, enjoys swimming and is an avid reader.
