New York State Senator Mark Grisanti recently received a Humane Leadership Award from the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
As part of the ASPCA's annual lobby day in Albany, an event was held that was co-sponsored by the New York State Animal Protection Federation, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and NY Class. The ASPCA presented awards to four elected officials in Albany, including Senator Grisanti, for their work on behalf of animals.
"I am truly honored and greatly humbled to be recognized by the ASPCA," said Senator Grisanti. "I take great pride in advocating for legislation that protects pets and punishes animal abusers. I am very proud of the pet protection bills I have introduced in the past and look forward to future discussions with representatives of the ASPCA and other animal advocate organizations on important measures that I can sponsor in the future."
The ASPCA worked last year with Grisanti and other state lawmakers to expand protections for animals with the successful passage of three important animal welfare bills. The new laws authorized local governments to crack down on cruel and unscrupulous pet dealers, increased penalties for the intentional killing of police animals, and improved the manner in which animal abusers are required to pay for the cost of care for abused animals that have been seized in cruelty cases.
