Elected Officials Ask Parks Department to Light the Unisphere Gold in September for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today has authored the attached letter, with his colleagues in federal, state and city government, to Parks Commissioner Mitchelll asking his support and participation in the Empire Go Gold campaign, to light up the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Park in Corona, Queens.
In addition to Senator Golden, the letter is signed by Congressman Michael G. Grimm, Assemblyman Alec-Brook Krasny, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, City Councilman Vincent J. Gentile and City Councilman Eric Ulrich.
The letter in part states, “We are respectfully requesting that Queens’ most recognizable symbol, The Unisphere, in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, be lit up in Gold during the month of September to advance the Empire Go Gold campaign. We truly believe that the famous and spectacular globe presented during the 1964 World’s Fair, would get the attention of the world and would be this action would be so important to our success.”
