Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today joined with Pietro’s Fight, in announcing a fundraising and public awareness campaign, “PJ’S for PJ”, set for December 18th, to help in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Senator Golden was joined by Pietro Joseph Scarso, his parents Dayna and Manni, Pietro’s Fight Co-Chair Samantha Altilio, and Aimee Pomaro, representing Tiny Tots Playhouse.
Senator Golden and Pietro’s Fight are encouraging the participation of local schools, and asking students to wear their pajamas to school on December 18th. The organization is asking each child to make a suggested donation of $5, or as much as they can give. All money raised will go to support research to help boys like Bay Ridge’s own Pietro Joseph Scarso,
Senator Marty Golden stated, “Today, this community further embraces the battle of so many young boys, and stands with Pietro’s Fight in its efforts to end DMD. I encourage our schools to get on board with this effort to raise awareness and research funds. I salute the Scarso Family for showing true courage, and for inspiring a community to help win this battle.”
"We are blessed with a community of adults that have been so supportive of our cause, and we believe it's time to instill it in our children who are the future of this community. I thank Aimee and Samantha for creating this fundraising campaign and for their dedication to see it be successful in our fight against DMD," said Pietro Joseph’s mother Dayna Scarso.
“I love seeing kids help other kids because it gives them a foundation at a very young age. Our goal in this mission of PJ's for PJ is to celebrate the spirit of fun during the holiday season. Pajamas symbolize a sense of childhood innocence that we hope to preserve for Pietro and rest of boys with DMD,” said Samantha Altilio, Co-Founder, Pietro’s Fight.
