Senator Golden Encourages Students to Read This Summer

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing the kick off of the 2014 Summer Reading Program, organized by his office, designed to encourage students to keep learning and reading during the summer months.

Senator Golden’s summer reading program is a partnership between the New York State Library and New York State Senate. Participating students will use an online journal to keep track of their reading progress throughout the summer. Children who submit a completed journal will receive recognition from Senator Marty Golden in the form of a summer reading certificate.

Parents interested in registering their children in the program can visit Senator Golden’s website at www.golden.nysenate.gov and click the Summer Reading Program button to register. The New York Read program also is useful for parents interested in finding out the popular items being read by students at their child’s grade level.

“I invite parents and teachers from throughout my district to take advantage of this program and sign up to read. It is important that students hold on to the knowledge they’ve made throughout the school year and take steps to advance their education over the summer months. As a parent, I know how important it is to encourage kids to expand their intellectual capacity and to support positive learning habits,” said Senator Marty Golden.
