Senator Mike Nozzolio Announces $600,000 Grant To Drive New Job Creation At The Former Seneca Army Depot

State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio today announced that he fought for and was successful in securing $600,000 in State funding to support continued job growth at the former Seneca Army Depot in Seneca County.

“This important funding will give Seneca County the additional resources they need to support and encourage further economic development at the former Seneca Army Depot(SEAD) and to create more jobs - right here in our local community,” said Senator Mike Nozzolio. “Since the Army Depot closed, we have been successful in creating over 1,100 new jobs at the Depot and I was pleased to secure this funding to continue our efforts to transform the Depot into an economic engine for Seneca County and the greater Finger Lakes region.”

Established in 1941, the former Seneca Army Depot occupies nearly 11,000 acres of land in the towns of Romulus and Varick in Seneca County. The Seneca Army Depot was previously used as a storage and transportation center by the United States Army.  Senator Nozzolio has been instrumental in securing millions of dollars in state funding for the revitalization of the Seneca Army Depot. New businesses including Seneca BioEnergy, Finger Lakes Technologies Group, Five Points Correctional Facility, the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center, Hillside Children's Center and others have chosen to locate their businesses at the former Seneca Army Depot. There are now as many jobs at the former Seneca Army Depot as there were at the height of its operations.

"This funding is great news for Seneca County and I thank Senator Nozzolio personally for his continued efforts to support and create additional economic opportunities at the Seneca Army Depot," said Bob Hayssen, Chairman of the Seneca County Board of Supervisors.

"Since the Army base closed, I have led the effort to create over a thousand new jobs at the SEAD and to support the County's efforts to improve its infrastructure so that businesses will want to locate and develop new business opportunities on this land. There have been great strides made to revitalize the Depot and I am confident that this funding will help drive the creation of new jobs and economic opportunities at the former Seneca Army Depot," concluded Senator Mike Nozzolio.
