Continuing his efforts to honor the fallen heroes of September 11th, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today announced that the 9/11 Remembrance Flag designed by Steve and Joanne Galvin of North Rose will be flown at the commissioning of the USS Somerset on March 1st in Philadelphia.
The USS Somerset is dedicated to the heroic men and women of Flight 93 whose selfless actions on September 11th prevented an attack on the United States Capitol.
“The 9/11 Remembrance Flag honors our fallen heroes and symbolizes the resilience of the American people to rise above the devastating losses of that day to come together to heal and rebuild our Nation. It is important that we pause to recognize the sacrifices of the heroic men and women of Flight 93 and the commitment and dedication of the thousands of Americans who answered the call of duty on that fateful day,” said Senator Mike Nozzolio.
Steve and Joanne Galvin of North Rose, New York designed the 9/11 Remembrance Flag as a permanent tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack on our Nation. Although Steve Galvin passed away before seeing his dream of the Remembrance Flag become a nationally recognized symbol, his widow, Joanne, continues to work with Senator Nozzolio in honoring the victims of September 11th and to share the Remembrance Flag with people from all across the Country.
“The flying of the 9/11 Remembrance Flag during the commissioning of the USS Somerset is a tribute to the victims of September 11th. It is this memory that keeps the spirit of those we lost alive and continues to remind us that we can never take a single thing for granted, especially our freedom and the individuals who defend it each and every day,” said Senator Mike Nozzolio.
