October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence is a crime that rips apart the very fabric of families. It can afflict every segment of society and knows no economic, ethnic or geographic boundaries. During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are encouraged to not only acknowledge the progress made in reducing these shameful crimes, but to also recognize that more work must be done.
I will continue to fight tirelessly to support the victims of this terrible crime, to punish perpetrators, and to work for meaningful legislation that will help break this cycle of violence once and for all.
As we honor the advocates and victim service providers who offer support, I encourage survivors and their loved ones who are seeking assistance to reach out by calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE or visiting www.TheHotline.org.
