Nearly 300 residents disposed of 30 tons of tires at a free disposal event hosted by State Senator Patty Ritchie in conjunction with the St. Lawrence County Highway Department.
“The more than 30 tons of tires disposed of this past weekend will go a long way towards not only helping clean up St. Lawrence County, but also towards preventing dangerous diseases and bettering our environment,” said Senator Ritchie.
“I would like to extend a special thank you to the St. Lawrence County Highway Department for partnering with me on this important effort to provide residents with an opportunity to dispose of waste tires, without having to pay the usual $15 fee.”
The events—which were hosted at the Ogdensburg Transfer Station and the Gouverneur Solid Waste Transfer Station—were aimed at helping the North Country prevent the spread of illnesses by eliminating tires that can act as breeding ground for disease-carrying insects and protecting the environment.
