State Senator Patty Ritchie is applauding nearly $144 million in new,  job-creating Regional Economic Development Council (REDC)  investments awarded to projects across Central and Northern New York.

Awards were announced Thursday at a special event held at the Capitol. At the event, the North Country—which includes Jefferson and St. Lawrence County—was awarded $63.4 million.  The Central New York region, which includes Oswego County, was named a “Top Performer” and was awarded $80. 2 million through the annual economic growth competition.  The new investments bring the four-year total of REDC awards for the two regions to roughly $691.2 million.

“Throughout the past four years, the Regional Economic Development Council awards have been a catalyst for tremendous growth in the regions I represent; giving key projects the support they need to get off the ground, create jobs and bolster their local economies,” said Senator Ritchie.

“I am pleased that once again, the Governor and the Regional Economic Development Council have recognized that our region is poised for new development and can’t wait to see how the funding awarded today impacts Central and Northern New York.”

Established in 2011, the Regional Economic Development Councils—made up of local experts and stakeholders with backgrounds in business, academia and local government and non-governmental organizations—were formed to develop long-term strategic plans for economic growth for their regions.

Among projects to be funded with the new round of grants are:

  • Production and business expansions at North American Tapes, LLC
  • A wastewater upgrades planning study in the Village of Deferiet
  • Public dock expansion design in the Village of Cape Vincent
  • St. Lawrence Shores Engineering Study in the City of Ogdensburg
  • Funding for the Tailwater Barn Banquet Facility in Altmar
  • Wastewater treatment plant improvements in the Village of Central Square
