Funding to be used to repair damaged roof and improve facilities
Continuing her strong commitment to local libraries, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced $50,000 in special funding to make much needed repairs and upgrades to the Mexico Public Library.
“Today’s libraries are much more than just places to find a great book. They are community centers that serve as a critical resource for job-seekers, senior citizens and families living on a budget,” said Senator Ritchie. “I’m pleased to be able to provide this funding for the Mexico Public Library and I will continue my efforts to support libraries across our region.”
“These grants are vital to preserve older, historic libraries like ours and they allow us to add and enhance services for our many patrons. We greatly appreciate Senator Ritchie's efforts to secure this funding and we are thankful for her continued support for local libraries,” said Julie Forbes, President of the Mexico Public Library.
“Local libraries are crucial to the success of our communities and I will continue my efforts to secure state grants to ensure that our libraries continue to be top-notch facilities that act as centers of learning for all ages,” Senator Ritchie concluded.
A strong supporter of libraries, Senator Ritchie is a member of the Senate Select Committee on Libraries, a panel tasked with looking for ways to support the future of public libraries. This year, Senator Ritchie secured $148,000 in special funding to help enhance services at libraries across our region. As a result of these efforts, more than 50 libraries and two regional library networks received the support they need to purchase new books, upgrade technology and enhance programs for their patrons.
