Senator Phil Boyle Honored 12 for Black History Month
Residents celebrated for their work serving the community
February 28, 2014 - Bay Shore, NY: New York State Senator Phil Boyle takes great pride in the cultural diversity of the 4th Senatorial District. In honor of Black Month, Senator Boyle hosted his 2nd Annual Awards Ceremony and Celebration on Thursday, February 27th, at the Bay Shore Brightwaters Public Library. The Senator acknowledged twelve well-deserved African-American residents from the Towns of Babylon and Islip with special awards for their service to the community.
This year’s Honorees include:
Jasmine Chisholm, Wyandanch - Honor Student, Wyandanch High School
James Cornigans, Bay Shore - Spiritual Adviser, Advocate and Educator
Felice Holder, Wyandanch - Community Volunteer & Advocate for the needy
Nancy Holliday, Wyandanch - Community Activist and Volunteer
Dr. Tracy Hudson, Bay Shore - Educator and Community Volunteer
Kimberly Jean - Pierre, Wheatley Heights - Local Government and Community Activist
Joshua Johnson, Wyandanch – Junior ROTC & Student, Wyandanch High School
Paula K. Santorelli, Bay Shore - Educator & Student Advocate
Myles Singer, Bay Shore - Student/Athlete & Youth Volunteer with YES (Youth Enrichment Services)
Corey J. Swinson, Bay Shore - (Posthumous) Security Specialist & Community Activist
Gina D. Talbert, Wyandanch - Educator and Community Volunteer/Advocate
Theresa Waldron, Brentwood - Community Advocate & Volunteer
There was entertainment and activities to commemorate and celebrate the culture and traditions of the African-American heritage during the evening’s festivities.
