Senator Phil Boyle urges residents to properly dispose of unused medications
Monday, June 2, 2014 - Bay Shore, NY - Every day in the United States 2,500 youth, ages 12 to 17, abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time. As the Chair of the Senate Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee, Senator Boyle believes it is imperative to bring this statistic down and stop the nation’s teens from using and exploring drugs and medications found around the home. That is why Senator Boyle is hosting two “Shed the Meds” events on Saturday, June 7th and Saturday, July 12th.
In conjunction with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, Senator Boyle will be collecting medications for safe disposal. “By properly disposing of household prescription drugs, we can help to keep them out of the wrong hands,” said Senator Phil Boyle. “By doing so, we also keep harmful materials from damaging our local waterways and water supply,” he continued.
