Statement by Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz
New York State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz (D-Bronx), has released the following statement:
It is refreshing to hear Rev. Al Sharptons’s December 20, 2014 statement repudiating the killing of two NYPD officers: “I have spoken to the Garner family and we are outraged by the early reports of the police killing in Brooklyn today. Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases.”
It would have been more refreshing to hear Rev. Al Sharpton or for any of New York’s elected officials – including myself – to have made a statement one week ago during the “Million Marchers” protest to repudiate the protesters when they chanted “What do we want...Dead cops!” as they marched in New York City, OR when NYPD Lieutenants Phillip Chan and Patrick Sullivan were attacked by protesters.
None of us can sit back. We all need to realize there is so much work to be done.
This is Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz and this is what you should know.
