Senator Gipson Announces Sgt. Charles J. Moore as the 2014 Veterans’ Hall of Fame Honoree for the 41st District

SENATOR GIPSON ANNOUNCES SGT. CHARLES J. MOORE AS THE 2014 VETERANS’ HALL OF FAME HONOREE FOR THE 41ST DISTRICT

ALBANY, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson is pleased to announce that the New York State Senate recognized Sgt. Charles J. Moore as the 2014 Veterans’ Hall of Fame honoree representing the 41st Senate District. Sgt. Moore was recognized during a ceremony yesterday afternoon, May 20, 2014, in Albany.

“Sgt. Moore defines the meaning of selfless service on behalf of our nation, community and his fellow Veterans,” said Senator Gipson. “I’m proud to have him representing the 41st Senate District as the New York State Senate’s 2014 Veterans’ Hall of Fame honoree.”

Karl Rohde, Director of the Putnam County Office of Veterans Affairs, stated, “Charlie is a big name in the Veterans community in Putnam County. Whenever there is a need for someone to take the reins to get a job done on behalf of Veterans, Charlie is the point man we want leading us. He does it for his affection for his fellow Veterans not for personal accolades.”

The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from New York State who have distinguished themselves in military and civilian life. Their meritorious service to our nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide, as a fitting expression of our gratitude and admiration.

Sgt. Moore, a retired Putnam County Deputy Sheriff, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1962 at the age of 17. He served honorably in Vietnam for which he was awarded the: Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, as well as the New York State Military Awards: Conspicuous Service Star with Silver Device and the Conspicuous Service Cross.

In 1967, Sgt. Moore retired from the United States Marine Corps for wounds received in action in Vietnam on March 4, 1966. After leaving the military, Sgt. Moore has been active in local Veterans services and functions. He designed the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Monument in the Town of Kent, New York. In 1997, he was the recipient of the Marine Corps League’s Distinguished Citizen Medal (Detachment Level), for his dedication to his fellow Veterans. He is a member of the Marine Corps League Detachment Post 242.
