SENATOR GIPSON’S STATEMENT ON THE PSC’S LEGAL
ACTION AGAINST CAPACITY ZONE

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) issued the following statement on the New York State Public Service Commission’s petition to the United States Court of Appeals to halt the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) federally mandated capacity zone in the Hudson Valley.

“Residents, local leaders, the business community and myself have continued to oppose FERC’s unconscionable plan to raise our energy costs in the Hudson Valley in order to improve services to New York City and Long Island. I commend New York State for stepping up to the plate and continuing to fight alongside us.

“I urge the Federal Government to listen to our community and do the right thing. We should be focusing on reducing the cost of living and doing business in Dutchess and Putnam counties, not having to fight Washington so that we can afford to pay our electric bill. I remain committed to working with anyone against this misguided effort.”
