SENATOR GIPSON'S STATEMENT ON THE SERVICE-DISABLED VETERAN-OWNED BUSINESS ACT PASSING SENATE
ALBANY, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) today issued the following statement on the State Senate’s passage of the Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Act, S.6865, which was co-sponsored by Senator Gipson. The legislation, which was recently agreed upon by Governor Andrew Cuomo and leaders in both houses, would require six percent of state contracts be to service-disabled veteran owned small businesses:
“As a member of the Senate’s Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee I was proud to co-sponsor this legislation. I commend my Senate neighbor to the south and Veterans Committee Chairman Senator Ball for his sponsorship of this bill, as well as Governor Cuomo and the leaders of both houses for coming together to get this bill passed.
“Having the opportunity to build a successful business is a lasting part of the American Dream, which these brave men and women have so honorably defended. They deserve a fair shot at that dream upon returning home to Dutchess and Putnam counties, and across New York State.”
