SENATOR GIPSON'S STATEMENT ON STATE FUNDING FOR DUTCHESS COUNTY & CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE TO COMBAT GUN VIOLENCE

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) issued the following statement on the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department receiving $342,512 in state funding towards a shared effort to combat gun violence. The funding is part of New York State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative. Senator Gipson strongly supported this funding during the state budget process and issued a letter of support on behalf of Dutchess County’s application to Michael C. Green, Executive Deputy Commissioner of the State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

“Gun violence has had a devastating effect on our community in the City of Poughkeepsie. Dutchess County officials put together a comprehensive plan to address this serious issue as outlined in their application to the state for GIVE funding and I was proud to advocate on their behalf. We must all work together on the local, state and federal level to take action and make our communities safer.

“I commend Governor Cuomo and Executive Deputy Commissioner Green for their efforts to help rid communities of violence and remain committed to working with those dedicated to moving the City of Poughkeepsie forward.”
