STATE SENATOR GIPSON COMMENDS MALONEY AND GIBSON LEGISLATION TO STOP CAPACITY ZONES & UTILITY COST HIKES

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) issued the following statement on Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney and Rep. Chris Gibson’s bipartisan legislation that would prohibit Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from approving a new capacity zone that would raise rates for consumers in the Hudson Valley:

"I applaud Congressman Maloney and Congressman Gibson for working across the aisle to tackle this critical issue. The federally mandated capacity zones would have a devastating impact on hardworking families in our shared communities who are already struggling to pay their electric bills.

“The idea of taking more money out of people’s pockets to incentivize new energy providers is unconscionable, especially after this hard winter. I have urged FERC not to move forward with this plan, and encourage New York’s delegation in Washington D.C. to get behind this legislation. I look forward to working with both representatives in any way that I may be helpful in their efforts.”
