STATE SENATOR GIPSON’S STATEMENT ON MTA PROPOSAL TO FUND CAPITAL PLAN WITH MTA PAYROLL TAX
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) today issued the following statement on the MTA’s proposal to use revenue from the regressive MTA Payroll tax to fund its $32 billion capital plan.
“I have been absolutely clear in my opposition to the MTA Payroll Tax, and have sponsored legislation to immediately end this unacceptable tax burden that has crippled Hudson Valley businesses and residents for too long. Unfortunately, the Senate Republicans have refused to bring my common sense tax repeal initiative to the floor for a vote. I remain committed to fighting for a full repeal."
