Eliminates MTA Supplemental Registration Fee For Farm Vehicles

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced today that Senate bill S6503 passed the Senate unanimously.  This legislation will eliminate the supplemental vehicle registration fee for farm vehicles in the metropolitan commuter transportation district (MCTD).  The MCTD consists of the City of New York and Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester counties.   Currently, when a farm vehicle is registered in the MCTD the registrant must pay an additional $25.00 fee for each vehicle on top of the regular registration charge.

“This additional registration fee is a hardship and undermines our family farms,” said Larkin.  “Eliminating this onerous fee is a prime example of what we can do to make our state more “small business friendly.”  The fee never should have been assessed on farm vehicles in the first place.  They do not use the services of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and should not be required to subsidize them,” said Larkin.  “I urge the Assembly to pass this legislation immediately and help New York’s farmers in MCTA.”

The bill now moves to the Assembly for consideration.
