Senator Bill Larkin Honors Local Veteran

Sidney Tendler Inducted Into the Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) nominated Sidney Tendler from Monroe, NY to the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Albany today. 

“I am proud to call Sidney Tendler my friend and to nominate him for induction into the Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame,” said Senator Bill Larkin.  “His service and dedication to our country makes him a true hero and I thank him for his sacrifices and for his service.”

Mr. Tendler attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II.  He was called to active duty in 1942 and served in the 7^th Emergency Rescue Squadron as a radio operator.  The B-17 to which he was assigned carried large survival boats called Flying Dutchman which were attached to the underside of the airplane.  Once released from the plane, three large parachutes would carry the boats to survivors in the water. 

For his service, Mr. Tendler was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal; the American Campaign Medal; the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal; the World War II Victory Medal; the New York State Medal for Merit and the Honorable Discharge Lapel Pin which is also known as the Ruptured Duck.   He is a member of the Jewish War Veterans, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.  Their meritorious service to our nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide as a fitting expression of our gratitude.
