Hoylman Bill Would Ban the Use of Whips, Bull Hooks and Other Implements Used During Elephant Acts
NEW YORK - State Senator Brad Hoylman (D-Manhattan) said: "I applaud Feld Entertainment and Ringling Bros. for agreeing to phase out all elephant acts by 2018. New York needs to do more to protect animal rights, which is why I’ve introduced legislation to eliminate the use of whips, bull hooks and other implements used during elephant acts that inflict pain and suffering on these majestic animals. I urge other circuses to follow the Ringling Bros.’ example and put an end to elephant acts."
Senator Hoylman’s bill, S.56, would ban the use of whips, bull hooks, chains or “inserting any instrument into any bodily orifice” of an elephant.
