Senator Hoylman, Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Borough President Gale Brewer, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assembly Member Deborah Glick, and Council Member Corey Johnson Submit Testimony to Department of City Planning on Pier 40/St. John's Terminal

On October 20, Mayor de Blasio announced a proposed plan to rehabilitate Pier 40 by selling the unused air rights from the pier to the nearby St. John’s Terminal site. The proposed plan would provide an estimated $100 million in funds to repair Pier 40, long in desperate need of structural work, in exchange for the development of mixed use buildings, with 30% of residential units reserved for permanent affordable housing for seniors and working families. At this point, I am scrutinizing the plan closely with my colleagues in government in order to ensure that if the project moves forward the Hudson River Park gets a fair return on the proposed sale of air rights to the project and that the impacts of the proposed project on the character of the neighborhood and local infrastructure are seriously considered. 

This morning, I submitted joint testimony to the Department of City Planning with Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Borough President Gale Brewer, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assembly Member Deborah Glick, and Council Member Corey Johnson on the Draft Scope of Work for the project's Draft Environmental Impact Statement. I will continue to work with my colleagues to review the details of this project as they emerge.
