New York, NY - Senator Brad Hoylman (D-Manhattan) said: "My heart goes out to all who were affected by this life-threatening incident, which was completely preventable and yet another example of why it’s essential that we crack down hard on illegal hotel operators like Highpoint Associates.
“I think it's high time we throw the book at illegal hotel operators and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law and consider new legal avenues to root them out of our community. My district has one of the highest illegal hotel concentrations in the city, and as this case shows, the lives and well-being of my constituents are threatened by the continued existence of illegal hotel operators like Highpoint. We must act now before another tragedy unfolds with potentially fatal consequences."
