Statement from Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- Olean):
“Extending the property tax cap for four more years is a victory for our taxpayers and the economy. The tax cap has been a smashing success, stopping out-of-control tax hikes. The cap has given residents a certainty they need and deserve – allowing them to better manage their finances, provide for their children, and make ends meet. Now, they will have this sense of stability for another four years.
“We fought hard to bring back the tax rebate checks, and the new property tax rebate system will provide STAR-eligible homeowners with $3.1 billion in new property tax rebates in the coming years. When coupled with the existing tax freeze check planned for next year, a total of $900 million in property tax relief checks will provide homeowners on average $350 in direct relief.
“The Senate’s commitment to property tax relief will have a positive impact on the lives of people across our region, and throughout New York State. The extension of the property tax cap and this new tax rebate will mean more money in the pockets of hardworking homeowners, families, and small businesses.”
