NUNDA – Demonstrating their creativity and commitment to a future with a clean environment, students from across Livingston, Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties recently submitted their original artworks to show what Earth Day meant to them.
The contest, sponsored by Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean), was based around the theme of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and attracted the participation of well over 100 local students. Angelina Cutler, a sixth grade student at Keshequa Central School, was this year’s winner.
“My office received wonderful pieces of artwork that exemplify the creativity of the young people in my district, and their awareness about how recycling can have an impact on our community’s environment. Each of the submissions displayed tremendous originality and a consciousness of the need to continue to follow good environmental practices to protect the future of our community and our state,” said Senator Young.
“I would like to offer my wholehearted congratulations to Angelina, and all of the participants in this year’s contest, and thank them for their submissions. I also want to give a special thanks to all the teachers, whose dedication and involvement in this event helped foster the creative works and made it such a success,” Senator Young said.
Senator Young’s annual Earth Day Poster Contest is open to children in grades K - 6. The winning poster and all other submissions can be viewed at http://www.nysenate.gov/earth-day-2015-poster-contest-district-57.
