Statement from Senator Catharine Young on NRG Dunkirk Plant
Catharine Young
August 25, 2015
“We have fought long and hard to repower the NRG Dunkirk plant because Dunkirk's future depends on it. Unfortunately, the repowering project has been delayed by the Entergy lawsuit. Our commitment is as strong as ever to move ahead, and we're working to find solutions. I've been in touch with the governor's office and the Public Service Commission to find a positive pathway forward. The specter of possible layoffs is a terrible hardship for affected workers, and our hearts go out to them and their families. We are hoping that layoffs at Dunkirk can be mitigated by action before the end of this year. I will not stop fighting for repowering. Our jobs, economy, tax base, school system and quality of life are at stake.”
