Young Named Assistant Senate Majority Whip

New Leadership position will include greater responsibilities

ALBANY – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) today was named the Assistant Senate Majority Whip. The new leadership position will increase her responsibilities as a member of the Senate Republican Majority’s Leadership Team and better position her to advocate for policies important to her constituents.

“During my time in the Senate, I have worked hard to assist the Senate Republican Conference in our efforts to cut taxes, grow the economy and make New York a more affordable place to live, work and do business. This new leadership position will allow me to better serve my constituents as I gain a more vocal position in the conference and am able to support new conference members who share in our mission,” said Senator Young.

“I look forward to building on the past successes of the Republican Majority to strongly advocate for policies and proposals that benefit all New Yorkers, especially the people who live, work and raise their families in Western New York’s Southern Tier.”

Senator Young previously served as Deputy Republican Conference Leader for Intergovernmental Affairs.

In addition to her new leadership position, she continues to serve as Chair of the Senate’s Committee on Housing, Construction, and Community Development and the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources. Earlier this year, Senator Young was appointed to the Senate’s Committees on Agriculture, Children and Family Services, Environmental Conservation, Finance, Health, Insurance, Rules, Transportation, and the Select Committee on State-Native American Relations. She also is an active member on the Senate’s Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction and the Senate’s Task Force on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases.
