Squadron At Senate District FDNY Firehouses/EMS Stations: Thank You For Your Service
Squadron/FDNY Celebrate 150 Years With State Senate Resolution
NEW YORK – Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron and FDNY officials, including Deputy Assistant Chief Daniel Donoghue - Manhattan Borough Commander, visited FDNY firehouses and EMS stations around the 26th Senate District to honor the FDNY’s 150th Anniversary. Squadron presented a copy of the Senate resolution he passed earlier this year to commemorate this noteworthy occasion, along with colleagues.
“New York’s bravest have fought fires, provided medical assistance, and worked side by side with our local communities for 150 years,” said State Senator Daniel Squadron. “I’m honored to have had the opportunity to sponsor this resolution to say thank you to the entire FDNY for their service.”
Squadron’s Senate Resolution was co-sponsored by all 63 State Senators and adopted unanimously on May 12th. In his floor speech, Squadron noted the FDNY’s impact in and around the 26th Senate District, including their response to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, September 11th, the CitiStorage fire in Williamsburg, the East Village gas explosion, and the tragic loss of Lt. Gordon Matthew Ambelas. Squadron also noted the recent appointment of the first female and first openly LGBT FDNY Chaplain, Pastor Ann Kansfield -- a constituent and long-time Brooklyn community leader -- as well as the FDNY’s recent successful city-wide open house anniversary event for community members.
