Senator David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester), in partnership with the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and Communities that Care will be hosting two Naloxone trainings. The Rockland County training will be taking place on Monday, July 13th from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., at the New City Library, located at 220 N Main St, in New City, NY. The Westchester training is being held on Wednesday August 5th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Ossining Public Library, located at 53 Croton Avenue, in Ossining, NY.
Both trainings are free, and open to the public. Participants will learn to use Naloxone, a lifesaving antidote that can be used on an individual who is experiencing an opioid overdose. Free Naloxone kits and prescriptions will be handed out to individuals who complete the training.
“Through these trainings, we have come together as a community to address an epidemic that has affected our friends, neighbors, and families,” said Senator Carlucci. “It is my hope that through our efforts to make Naloxone more affordable and accessible, we can save as many lives as possible.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every day 44 people in the United State die from an overdose of prescription painkillers, and more become addicted. Through the efforts of OASAS and other state agencies, approximately 37,000 people have been trained in Naloxone issuance, and more than 1,100 lives have been saved.
Individuals interested in participating, can register by calling Senator Carlucci’s Office at 845-623-3627.
