Senator David Carlucci joined New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, former Vice President Al Gore, Columbia University President Lee Bollinger and fellow legislators at Columbia University on October 9th to announce that New York State will sign on to the Under 2 MOU, an agreement between states, provinces and municipal governments around the world to do their part to cap the rising average temperature of the Earth by under 2 degrees Celsius by the year 2100.
The agreement reaffirms New York State’s pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 and by 50% by 2050.
“Failure to address climate change now will have irrevocable consequences for future generations,” commented Senator Carlucci. “Under 2 MOU not only brings attention to climate change but encourages cooperation between governments around the world to work together on one of the most important issues facing our society today. I want to thank Governor Cuomo, Vice President Gore and my partners in government for their proactive leadership and commitment to addressing climate change.”
