SYRACUSE, N.Y. – State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) today announced that the electronics recycling event he sponsored on November 7 at the State Fairgrounds collected 111.5 tons of items, the most of any statewide Senator-sponsored collection event held to date. An estimated 2,000 drivers dropped off items that included computers, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, televisions, cell phones, IT and networking equipment, monitors, MP3 players, PDAs, tablets, and ink and toner cartridges. There was no fee and no limit to the number of items that could be dropped off.
Valesky sponsored his first electronics recycling event in September 2013. About 24 tons of electronics waste was collected at that event.
“Many, many thanks to the volunteers who helped unload cars and whose efforts will help the Food Bank of Central New York. I also thank Sunnking Electronics and Time Warner Cable for their assistance in coordinating this event,” Valesky said. “Thanks also must go to the area residents who came to the fairgrounds to safely and responsibly recycle their old electronics. Proper disposal helps to protect our environment from pollutants.”
A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Central New York Food Bank, based on the total weight of materials collected.
