SYRACUSE – Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) is hosting an electronics recycling event in partnership with Sunnking Electronics Recycling and Time Warner Cable on Saturday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City of Syracuse Department of Public Works, 1200 Canal St. Extension (off Midler Ave.), Syracuse. Area residents can drop off old and unused electronics at no charge, and there is no limit to the number of items that may be dropped off.
A new law that went into effect on January 1 prohibits certain types of electronics from being discarded in the trash or placed curbside for trash pickup. These items must now be recycled.
“Many people may have received new TVs or other electronic devices as holiday gifts,” Sen. Valesky said. “This free recycling event is an easy and convenient way for them to safely and legally dispose of their old electronics.”
Items that can be accepted include computers (desktops and laptops), printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, televisions (CRT, LCD, LED, plasma), cell phones, IT and networking equipment, monitors (CRT, LCD, LED), MP3 players, PDAs, tablets, and ink and toner cartridges. Visit Sunnking.com for a full list of acceptable items.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Central New York Food Bank, based on the total weight of materials collected.
